San Francisco: Sore Dove Press, 2022. Collection of 46 original and mostly unpublished Beat-related photographs (4x6in, 10x15cm) from the personal collection of Soheyl Dahi from 2004 to the present. Photographs are inside a black archival album (17.5x12.5cm) with a silver circular sticker to front. The album is housed in a black box (19.5x14.5cm) with a silver rectangular sticker to front and a publisher sticker to back. A plastic wraparound band holds the box closed. The album includes a title page with some introductory notes by Dahi and a colophon signed and numbered by Dahi. Each photograph is titled, dated, and signed by Dahi. The edition is limited to 12 signed and numbered boxes, this being No. 4. Fine.
These original photographs were all taken by Soheyl Dahi, artist, poet, and founder of Sore Dove Press. This collection includes photographs of several Beat poets such as Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Amiri Baraka, Jack Hirschman, Anne Waldman, ruth weiss, Gary Snyder, Harold Norse, and Joyce Carol Oates, among others. Our favorite is of Lenore Kandel joyously greeting Diane di Prima. The collection also includes several signs from City Lights Bookstore over the years as well as photographs of four charcoal drawings done by Dahi of Ferlinghetti, Ginsberg, Burroughs, and Kerouac.
