Graphic Problems in Historic Preservation: An Illustrated Lecture
[New Haven, Connecticut]: Yale University Printing Service / Yale Center for American Art and Material Culture], April 1979. 56.4x41.8cm. Illustrated poster printed on thin stock, advertising a free public lecture by Susan Jackson Keig. Tears along left edge and lower left corner. Creasing to corners and edges. Scattered faint rubbing with small area of scraping, not impacting image or text. Very Good.
In her illustrated lecture, part of the Rollins Lectures on the Typographic Tradition at Yale University, Susan Jackson Keig discusses her work as the designer for historic preservation, embracing signage, symbols, exhibits, and publications, while ensuring that the typography associated with these historical reconstructions does not “fall victim to the same faddish lettering which glares from the phoney-evocative barbecue pits, the half-timbered shopping centers and the salt-box bank branches which jam the approaches to every American city.” During this time, Susan Jackson Keig was one of Chicago’s top graphic designers and a Fellow of the Society of Typographic Arts.
