No copies located in OCLC, but we note one copy at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum at The Ohio State University Libraries. We have two copies of this poster, which we purchased from a dealer who had purchased them from a now defunct Detroit-area print shop.
The poster artwork was produced by Carl Lundgren, an accomplished Michigan artist best known for his concert poster illustrations and his extensive work as a fantasy and science fiction book cover illustrator. According to Lundgren, with whom we corresponded, he never gave this piece a title and created it exclusively for PIRGIM’s use. As for its meaning, even Lundgren admitted he wasn't entirely sure what inspired it. One thing, however, is undeniable… it would have stopped passersby in their tracks and demanded a second look.
PIRGIM was founded by University of Michigan students in 1973 on the belief that collective action can create meaningful social change. One of its earliest and most significant achievements was helping to pass Michigan’s Bottle Bill, which provides a 10-cent deposit on carbonated beverage bottles and cans. Over time, PIRGIM evolved into a citizen-funded organization dedicated to addressing issues that affect communities across the state.
